Kellen Spencer
Kellen Spencer is a visual artist and printmaker based in Sikóóhkotok (Lethbridge, Alberta). His involvement in the arts began at the Red Deer College in 2012 and later the Alberta University of the Arts (formerly ACAD), where he completed a BFA in Print Media in 2018. Upon graduation, he received multiple awards including the Board of Governors Graduating Student Award and the Print Portfolio Scholarship, giving him the opportunity to attend the IMPACT10 Conference in Santander, Spain. His specialization in printmaking led him to serve as a Board Member with the Alberta Printmakers (A/P) in Calgary between 2017-2019.
While completing his undergraduate degree, he worked as a treeplanter in Canada’s forestry industry. This immersion in altered landscapes influenced his later participation in the Global Ecologies Studio, a 6-week science and art program at the Burren College of Art in West Ireland in 2017. His printed works have been shown in numerous group exhibitions across Canada, at galleries including the John. B Aird Gallery, VIVIANEART and the Orillia Museum of Art & History. In 2021, Spencer was granted funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and subsequently held solo exhibitions at the Casa Arts Centre, and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery’s (SAAG) Art Library. Most recently, he was commissioned by City of Lethbridge Public Art and Lethbridge Transit to design a vinyl wrap for the Rolling Views - Art Bus project, unveiled in 2026.
Spencer’s creative practice is also informed by his professional role as a construction surveyor, through which he examines themes of futility, domesticity and memory, alongside the enduring environmental imprint that construction leaves upon the land. He continues to develop his practice from a small personal studio as well as the public art facilities at Casa Arts Centre in Lethbridge.
