Kylie Fineday

K. Ashton Fineday is a nehiyaw (Plains Cree) artist and curator who grew up in Sweetgrass First Nation, on Treaty Six territory in rural Saskatchewan. Fineday holds a BFA in Art Studio from the University of Lethbridge and completed an MFA in Visual Arts at the University of Victoria in 2026. Fineday’s conceptual practice focuses on themes of personal identity and family history through storytelling, as well as addressing social and environmental issues and injustices, particularly those affecting Indigenous communities within Canada, and exemplifying a relationship with the non-human natural world that is based on reciprocity and kinship. Fineday’s material practice is multidisciplinary, and includes drawing, lens-based performance, installation, and textiles such as sewing and beadwork, as well as explorations with materials harvested from the natural world.
