Edwin Isford
Edwin Isford is an artist and craftsperson who lives and works in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His practice approaches subject matter such as the muscular male archetype, clothing, and material agency through sculpture, photography, and textile arts. The undercurrent of his studio practice is in questioning the human body's relationship with itself and beyond — experimentation with unconventional materials is central to discovering how things react when used outside of their expected function.
Since 2018 he has moved much of his creative energy towards garment making, mixing new skills in pattern making and sewing alongside past processes while working towards increasingly functional objects.
Edwin received a BFA in Studio Arts (Major Photography) in 2017 from Concordia University in Montréal, and was awarded the Canada Council Research and Creation grant in 2022.
